this exhibition brings together the individual practices of lyndon barrois jr., elisa giardina papa, and léann herlihy, which are concerned with the disruption and revision of established forms of instruction. each artist’s work explores the cultural impact of images and their relationship to storytelling and technology. using formatting, modification, compositing and erasure, their work creates scenarios in which existing structures of power no longer bear influence over ways of being in the world.lyndon barrois jr. reconfigures the limitations of print media processes and exposes how they dictate and reinforce narrow cultural outlooks. elisa giardina papa’s film installation “u scantu”: a disorderly tale, invokes historically overlooked multispecies mythologies and practice of healing. léann herlihy’s participatory survival and hedge school projects invite multiple positions and narratives within communal ways of learning.in order to make space that doesn’t perpetuate the predetermined outcomes of hierarchical power dynamics, forms of communal, intergenerational, improvised, and reciprocal learning allow us to challenge structural oppression. using methodologies in folklore, imagination, collectivity, and activism this exhibition explores how identity can be formed and empowered by identifying and breaking patterns of expectation.
